Votey and the name of the firm was changed to “Farrand & Votey”. The Farrand-Cecilian Piano & Organ Company was originally founded in 1883 as The Detroit Organ Company in Detroit, Michigan. I found a little more info from an antique piano site: Although not well known today, it was apparently quite a respected brand in the early 1900s. The make of the piano is the Farrand Piano Company. Gary got the piano from a church up in Seattle. This piano belongs to amazing jazz pianist, composer, educator, and dear friend Gary Fukushima, who was generous enough to give it a new home here at the Dojo. I’ve received so many compliments on the rich, dark, moody and huge sound of the upright piano, so here’s a little background on it.
